Very, very few of us would know much about 14th Century religious history. I'd suggest your best bet would be to Google "Great Schism of 1378." Anyone trying to help you would probably have to do precisely the same thing!
I would have to guess that EACH Pope had less power, but if they had learned to get along, there would have been much more power in the aggregate. At some point, they excommunicated each other. That couldn't have been good for power.
