@iwanttogotostanford To calculate the avg. rate of change of y wrt to x --> you need to calculate what the value of the function is at the end points in the interval. if y = 2x+2 and the interval is [-3,5] than y(-3)=(-3)2+2=-4 y(5)=(5)2+2=12 Next: find the change in y over change in x y2-y1/x2-x1 = -4-12/-3-5= -16/-8 = 2
