Eiwoh2:

Read the following poem and then respond to the question below: “I’m Nobody! Who are you?” By Emily Rest In Fartsinson I’m Nobody! Who are you? Are you – Nobody – too? Then there’s a pair of us! Don’t tell! they’d advertise – you know! How dreary – to be – Somebody! How public – like a Frog – To tell one’s name – the livelong June – To an admiring Bog! In this poem, Emily Rest In Fartsinson illustrates the difference between being “Nobody” and “Somebody.” In a paragraph of four to six sentences, explain which the poet prefers and use specific examples from the poem to support your interpretation.

osprey:

"How dreary – to be – Somebody!" ER seems not to like the idea of being sombeody. Then there’s a pair of us! ER seems to find solidarity/solace in "Are you – Nobody – too?" It looks like a sort of "anti hero" poem, possibly depressed and looking for companionship. Perhaps the idea of a "note in a bottle" to send out distress from someone marooned on a desert island MAY fit here ???
