Falconmaster:

In Mr. Simpson's science class, students are allowed to retake one test each grading period. Currently, Aiden's science test scores are 74, 91, 63, 86, and 69. If Aiden retakes the test he scored the lowest on and makes an 81, which statement below is true? The median of Aiden's grades will stay the same. The median of Aiden's grades will increase. The median of Aiden's grades will decrease. The median of Aiden's grades will double.

Pandora:

So, to find the median, line the numbers in order from lowest to highest, then find the number in the middle. If more of the numbers are higher, what do you think will happen to the median?

Falconmaster:

76 is the mean

Falconmaster:

the mean changes to 66

Pandora:

Hint: We're doing median, not mean.

Falconmaster:

ok lol

Pandora:

63, 69, 74, 86, 91 Now, let's change one of the lower scores to an 81: 69, 74, 81, 86, 91 Does the number in the middle increase?

Falconmaster:

yes

Pandora:

I believe you have found your answer, then. :)

Falconmaster:

Pandora:
