Many had hoped that a compromise would be reached to prevent further nation divide. Which compromise do you think could have best prevented the Civil War from occurring?

what are the options?
its an short answer thing
1) The slave south could have accepted the fair election of Abraham Lincoln. and the exclusion of slavery from the territories. That wasn't gonna happen. 2) The free states could have accepted slave codes for the territories plus the other measures demanded for the protection and expansion of slavery. That wasn't gonna happen. 3) The slave south could have opted not to secede but to fight their fight in the Congress and the courts (with their doughface Democratic allies in the north the pro-southern forces still had a majority in the Senate even after the 1860 elections, and Dred Scott proved that they had the Supremes on their side). That wasn't gonna happen. 4) The free states could have accepted secession. That wasn't gonna happen. The conflict had been likely for many years. After the 1854 passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Act it became inevitable. Put even more simply, the war could have been avoided, or at least delayed, to the extent that either side would have caved in.
