well i'm not sure what red herring and fired gun mean but unless they're literary devices we can rule them out. a flashback is an instance in which one of the characters remembers a time in their past that conflicts or relates with the story. a foreshadow is when a detail has a double meaning, in which it suggests something might happen in the future. flashback example: Robin reminisced the last time Batman beat up The Joker. He remembers the right hooks and the roundhouse kicks, and the damage done to both his partner and their enemy. It was impossible, but Robin could almost see the action: the fists flying, the explosions, and the tattered face of both opponents. foreshadow example: "We'll be safe under here," Justin said, "they can't find us in this cave." "But Justin!" Cassidy objected, pointing to the ceiling. "It's dripping! The water from the lake above us! We'll be caved in if we stay here!" Justin waved his hand, dismissing her outbursts. "We'll be just fine, Cass. Nothing's gonna happen to us while we're in this cave."
