Compare the costs and benefits of fossil fuel energy to that of wind power. (Please include two costs and two benefits.)

ThisGirlPretty:

@theDeviliscoming @pandasurvive

pandasurvive:

Oh, this is rather easy actually. (look at me talking like a smart person :3 )

ThisGirlPretty:

XD lmao

theDeviliscoming:

Fossil fuel energy releases more pollution, negative affect on global warming; wind power is clean energy that has little to no pollution

pandasurvive:

The benefit is that wind is easier to use to power and its free and renewable. Fossil fuels on the other hand is time consuming to get them worst for the environment. They are also non renewable.

ThisGirlPretty:

Okie Dokie :P Ty both!

theDeviliscoming:

np

ThisGirlPretty:

dev can you medal panda and i medal you?

pandasurvive:

I dont need a medal lol.

theDeviliscoming:

sure lol

ThisGirlPretty:

But you're gonna get one! lmao

pandasurvive:

lol

Whilst there are the very noticeably costs of fossil fuels being pollution and it's attribution to climate change (global warming), there are downsides to wind power as well. In my state, Hawaiʻi, wind power has had several negative effects on our endangered and native species. Below, is an article talking about how wind farms in Hawaiʻi have killed 146 of the 187 Hawaiian hoary bats that are allowed by 2030. So in 6.4 years, the turbines have killed what experts thought would have taken two decades. Article: http://dailycaller.com/2017/02/26/study-wind-turbines-could-make-this-endangered-bat-go-extinct/ Also, a recent study states that the Hawaiian hoary bat's population could decline as much as 90 percent in the next 50 years, as more turbines are built. Study: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0006320716310485 The Hawaiian hoary bat is an endangered species, and is also the only indigenous land mammal to Hawaiʻi, so there has been a plethora of public outcry. Here is an article from our local newspaper talking about it. https://www.pressreader.com/usa/honolulu-star-advertiser/20170114/281479276109742 In addition to the bats being killed, as per the above Honolulu Star Advertiser article, the wind farms have killed at least 50 nene, an endangered Hawaiian goose and state bird, as well as 26 petrels, an endangered seabird. So there is a negative to wind farms, which is the cost of endangered and precious wildlife. It is worthy to note though, that wind farms are more energy efficient than fossil fuels Article: https://cleantechnica.com/2012/07/18/wind-energy-energy-efficient-fossil-fuels-uk/
