Hero:

@Dumbgirl2, do you have an idea of which option might be correct?

Dumbgirl2:

No

Hero:

So the given problem description can be represented by the following equation y = f(x) where x represents the number of boxes packed and y represents the number of buns delivered So the question is, what set of values can the function accept as inputs? Deciding about the first option (The domain includes only integers) is the same as asking yourself, "Can the function also accept negative inputs (in addition to positive inputs)?" In other words, is there a such thing as negative boxes producing buns delivered?

Hero:

@Dumbgirl2

Dumbgirl2:

It can't be a negative right?

Hero:

Correct, the INPUT can't accept negative values, which means what @Dumbgirl2 ?

Dumbgirl2:

Either B or C?

Hero:

It means that we can eliminate option A because we know the set of integers must include both positive and negative numbers but the domain cannot accept negative numbers because there is no such thing as negative boxes.

Hero:

I see, that you realize the correct answer must be between B and C. So the question is can the function accept zero or not? @Dumbgirl2 what does zero represent in this case?

Dumbgirl2:

idk

Hero:

Well, what does x = 1 represent in this case?

Dumbgirl2:

A positive real number?

Hero:

Yes but what does it mean in terms of what x represents?

Dumbgirl2:

I'm not sure

Hero:

Do you remember what x represents? (Hint: Scroll up)

Dumbgirl2:

Number of boxes packed?

Hero:

Yes, given that x represents number of boxes packed, what would x = 1 represent?

Dumbgirl2:

idk

Dumbgirl2:

I dont understand any of it

Hero:

I should say this: We're using y = f(x) to represent the idea that if x amount of boxes is packed, then y amount of buns are delivered. Now suppose that for every box packed, 100 buns are delievered, then If x = 1, y = 100. Which means, If 1 box is packed, 100 buns are delivered. And this can be represented by 100 = f(1).

Hero:

@Dumbgirl2 do you understand that?

Dumbgirl2:

yes

Hero:

Okay, so understanding that, what does x = 0 represent?

Dumbgirl2:

y=0 which means 0 buns are delivered and 0=f(0)?

Hero:

x = 0 by itself would mean 0 boxes are packed and as you have now figured out, if 0 boxes are packed, then 0 buns are delivered which is represented by 0 = f(0). So the question is, in terms of the function, is this possible? If so, then C is correct. If not, then B is correct.

Dumbgirl2:

But it is possible? So C would be correct?

Hero:

Yes, C is correct.

Dumbgirl2:

Ok, thank you
