rociova:

A cube with side length 5h^2 is stacked on another cube with side length 3k What is the total volume of the cubes in factored form?

Hero:

@rociova are you familiar with the formula for volume of a cube?

Hero:

The general formula for volume of a cube is \(V = a^3\) where \(a\) is the length of one side.

Hero:

In this case we are given two cubes of different side lengths and asked to find their total volume (in factored form). So let \(V_1\) be the volume of the first cube and \(V_2\) be the volume of the cube stack on top the first cube. If we add their volumes together we will have the total volume of the cubes. This can be represented by: \(V_t = V_1 + V_2\)

Hero:

If you input the volume of both cubes you'll have: \(V_t=(5h^2)^3 + (3k)^3\) which can be factored using the sum of cubes formula.
