How is the additive inverse property used to subtract rational numbers?

563blackghost:

Inverse number are −5 and 5, 6 and −6 etc.. Let us say we have −5−5 we need to format as additive a+b=c So we find each term. We see we have -5 and another −5 let us substitute these into the format. (−5)+(−5)=−10. This is how it is used.
