What is theme? How do you find theme based on characters’ actions? Analyze the actions of characters in the short story “Rules of the Game” by Amy Tan and infer the theme.

ThisGirlPretty:

What do you have so far?

natedawg246813579:

nothing

ThisGirlPretty:

Lets start with theme

Eiwoh2:

Theme can mean different things in English. But this is speaking about a certain theme.

natedawg246813579:

ok

Eiwoh2:

Theme is sort of like a topic.

Eiwoh2:

Thus the definition: the subject of a talk, a piece of writing, a person's thoughts, or an exhibition; a topic:

natedawg246813579:

ok can we just slow down

natedawg246813579:

please:(

Eiwoh2:

It is a syllable for "subject" or "topic".

ThisGirlPretty:

Do you know what theme is?

Eiwoh2:

That is just the definition.

Eiwoh2:

I'm starting off with the definition to help the person understand the rest of the question.

natedawg246813579:

it is from "Rules of the Game" by Amy Tan

ThisGirlPretty:

No its asking you "What is theme"

Eiwoh2:

No it isn't. I'm not answering the full question.

natedawg246813579:

hello

ThisGirlPretty:

Its not asking "What is the theme of the story"

Eiwoh2:

What are the characters in "Rules of game"?

ThisGirlPretty:

What do you think the theme is nate?

natedawg246813579:

idk i never read it

Eiwoh2:

:\ Well, in order to understand the question, it's good to read it...

ThisGirlPretty:

No no. The theme not in the story the definition of "Theme"

natedawg246813579:

ok can we come back to this one?

ThisGirlPretty:

Sure.

Eiwoh2:

Once you read the story, sure.

Elsa213:

I don't think there is an explanation for the definition of `Theme.` >.< Eventually, you'll have to give a direct answer here.

ThisGirlPretty:

"How do you find theme based on characters’ actions?"

Eiwoh2:

If you want to understand the question and what is it asking, the story is a good start.

Eiwoh2:

And thank you, Elsa.

ThisGirlPretty:

Have you read the story nate?

Eiwoh2:

He just said no.

Eiwoh2:

\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @natedawg246813579 idk i never read it \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\)

ThisGirlPretty:

I didnt see, plus there was no need for you to be rude.

Eiwoh2:

I'm not being rude, i am just trying to help while you are accusing me of giving direct answers.

ThisGirlPretty:

Nate the only way you'll figure out the answer is if you read the story v.v

ThisGirlPretty:

Is the story confusing? @natedawg246813579

Eiwoh2:

I was not being rude, i was trying to help, while you are accusing me of giving direct answers.

Eiwoh2:

Well, as Elsa finely said, there was no "Explanation" to what THEME is. It has a simple definition.

Eiwoh2:

Knowing the definition is needed to actually answer the question. I was only helping. Doing what i was supposed to do.

Elsa213:

This escalated quickly. >.> It depends on how you read the reply/statement. It's difficult to identify the mood or tone of a person. However, we must all be respectful and kind.

Eiwoh2:

They are learning. For example, right now, he is probably reading the story, since he hadn't. But now he knows the definition of theme and what to look for, because the definition is given to him.

Elsa213:

The asker could be asking because he/she does not understand the meaning of their lesson. o:

Eiwoh2:

Lol i say again: I WASN'T giving direct answers.

Elsa213:

Err, taking notes.

Eiwoh2:

"What is the definition of theme" was NOT the full question.

Elsa213:

It really just depends on the person. :p

Eiwoh2:

Exactly. Just like how some people aren't smart enough to know a certain math question.

Eiwoh2:

So instead of making the person feel dumb by saying it can be answered easily, we help. Bc that's what we do.

Elsa213:

Err, enough with the argument/discussion. Allow the asker to read his/her novel and we can happily answer. :3

Eiwoh2:

For you, maybe.

ThisGirlPretty:

I will delete my comments and leave.

Eiwoh2:

Because even I got the answer wrong. Proves that not everyone is smart in the same way.

Elsa213:

This is becoming a post filled with spam.

Eiwoh2:

I rest my case.

Elsa213:

Calm yourself, Eiwoh. o:

natedawg246813579:

so what did i miss?

Eiwoh2:

Lol i am calm. Unlike someone here that just wants to prove superior by the loosk of it ^^

Eiwoh2:

Nothing much. Have you read what you needed to read?

natedawg246813579:

no i just switched classes

Eiwoh2:

Oh. Well, i will just recommend you to read the story. That way, you can know the theme (or subject or topic) of the story, and the other contents asked in the question.

Elsa213:

@natedawg246813579 , now that you are no longer working on this assignment. Please be so kind as to close this post. Thank you.

natedawg246813579:

ok

Eiwoh2:

Have a good day ^^

natedawg246813579:

you 2 :)
