Please help....

Ultrilliam:

What do you need help with?

BaconUp:

Ultrilliam:

@Angle

Angle:

First we want to know what a parent function is here is an example of a definition of a parent function from: https://mathbitsnotebook.com/Algebra1/Quadratics/QDGraphTrans.html "A parent function is the simplest function of a family of functions. For the family of quadratic functions, y = ax^2 + bx + c, the simplest function of this form is y = x^2."

Angle:

generally a parent function has coefficients of 1 for example, y = 1x is the parent function of y = 2x + 3 y = 1x^2 is the parent function of y = 2x^2 + 3x + 6

Angle:

so in our options D: y = 3x^2 would NOT be a parent function because it has a 3 as a coefficient the parent function OF y = 3x^2 would actually be y = x^2 do you get what I'm saying @BaconUp ? :)

BaconUp:

I think so

Angle:

Do you have a guess of which option might be a parent function?

BaconUp:

A or C

Allison:

Welcome to Question Cove~ Hey Angle c:

Angle:

awesome! You've got the right idea ^_^ I was thinking the same thing, and C in particular is weird because of where that "2" is sitting in fact, \(C: y = \large ~ \frac{2}{x} = \small 2* \large \frac{1}{x} \) so C does have a coefficient of 2 what do you think might be the answer now? :)

BaconUp:

A

Angle:

Correct! :) great job! do you understand what a parent function is now? ^_^

BaconUp:

Yeah, thank you for helping. :)

Angle:

No problem to ask another question, all you have to do is "Close" this one :)

BaconUp:

ok
