The key to this problem is noting that we are solving for the # of tickets sold in order to break even. Therefore all earnings made will be equal to the cost it took.

Total Earnings: 5x + 1400
Total Cost: 3x + 3600

$$5x + 1400 = 3x + 3600$$

Solve for x

$$2x = 2200$$
$$x = 1100$$
