Vocaloid:

intercepts are simple (simply break into its factors and set them equal to 0) I actually don't remember how to find relative extrema (without using calculus) so I will be using software for this

zarkam21:

Yeah that is fine

Vocaloid:

for example, for f(x) = (1/4)(x+2)(x-1)^2 we set x + 2 = 0 and x - 1 = 0 to find the x-intercepts

Vocaloid:

while you're solving for the x-intercepts... the local max is (-1,1) and the local min is (1,0)

zarkam21:

so for #20 is local max is (-1,1) and the local min is (1,0)

Vocaloid:

yes

Vocaloid:

have you figured out the x-intercepts yet?

zarkam21:

yes

zarkam21:

(-2,0)(1,0)

Vocaloid:

good for y-intercepts we just let x = 0 and find f(x) to save some time it's (0,1/2) and that's it for 20

Vocaloid:

for 21 you need to factor the function first do you know how to factor this?

zarkam21:

yes one sec please

zarkam21:

x(2x-5)(x+5)

Vocaloid:

good, now we set each factor to 0 to solve for the x intercepts x = 0 (2x - 5) = 0 (x+5) = 0

zarkam21:

x intercepts = (0,0)(5/2,0),(-5,0) y intercept= (0,0)

Vocaloid:

good the local max is (-3,66) and (1.37,-19.72) is the local min
