organic uplift, which means the terrain forces the air to move upward. This specifically happens on Northern Pacific Gyre, and is pushed up the Sierra mountains in Nevada, and then falls off as it cools as precipitation on the west side of the mountains.

This is also why there is often lots of fog clouding the peaks of mountains.
