If you had a 10-acre plot the optimal way to use it would be to grow corn to feed several cows. These cows, can later be used as a resource to make milk and meat which can be used to feed the farmer's family and any surplus can be sold at a market to make money for the farmer.

the cow bit is inefficient.  energy will be lost.

he/his have to eat all of the corn, of course.  and this has little concern for sustainability and a bunch of health and other concerns.
