Hayhayz:

Anybody got brief information about ocean mapping and or plate tectonics that they would like to share with me? :)

Shadow:

Writing an essay?

Hayhayz:

nah research and i was just seeing if anybody else had information on this topic that i could possibly add on in my own reflection lol

Hayhayz:

sometimes my textbook is too complex to understand

Shadow:

Well, to my knowledge, plate tectonics is a theory that Earth's lithosphere (outer shell) has large and small plates which 'float' atop the asthenosphere due to it's malleable nature. These tectonic plates are what the crust (Earth's most outer layer) resides on. They are responsible for forming ocean crust through a process called convection, in which hot magma rises up. There are also places called subduction zones, where two plates meet and one slides under the other. This pulls the crust behind the bottom plate downward. Due to the massive size of these plates, they are attributed to the cause of Pangaea's separation, as well as the cause for earthquakes (when these massive plates meet/separate, they discharge high levels of energy, thus earthquakes) as well as tsunamis (when plates are below water, this discharged energy affects water).

Thank you shadow much appreciated :)
