@DUDE I MESSED UP!!! IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE ON COLUMBIA AND VENEZULA
;-;
I GOT THE WRONG TEXT AND ANSWERS :(
PAOLA: Hey there! I'm Paola and I'm from Venezuela. But right now, I'm in beautiful Colombia. I'm volunteering with Doctors Without Borders for the summer with my friend Diego. Have you seen him? He's from Colombia, but we met in our online English class and he's going to show me around. Translates to "Hello? Tell me, am I in the right place?" PAOLA: Diego, ¿eres tú? ¡Ven aquí! Translates to "Diego, is that you? Come here!" DIEGO: Disculpe, venga señorita, ¿Quién es Ud.? PAOLA: ¿¿Disculpe?? ¿¿Venga?? ¿¿Señorita?? ¿Por qué tan formal Diego? Soy yo … Paola. Translates to "Pardon? Come miss? Why so formal, Diego? It's me … Paola." DIEGO: ¡Hola Paola! ¿Cómo que formal? Translates to "Hi Paola! What do you mean formal?" Translates to "It's just that you are speaking to me like I speak to my grandmother or our English teacher." (END CONVERSATION) DIEGO: I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, Paola. In Venezuela, you usually say "ven aquí" to say "come here," but in Colombia many young people use the formal form, "venga aquí." PAOLA: It's funny how we may say the same thing a little differently, since our countries really aren't that far apart. Anyway, it's so nice to finally meet you in person. And here in Colombia—your home country. I've always wanted to visit. DIEGO: What is Venezuela like, Paola? PAOLA: I love it there. People around the world are hearing only the bad news about my country, like the government corruption. All this has really strained our relationship with the U.S. and other countries, but our people are so wonderful. Foreigners also tend to think Venezuela is all rural and farmlands, but after oil was discovered in 1913, that became the chief export and we became an industrialized nation! I live in the capital of Venezuela, Caracas, and it is a totally modern, technologically advanced city. That's not to say that we don't have some beautiful natural places to visit, too. Here, I have some pictures from my trip to Angel Falls. So amazing! It's the highest uninterrupted waterfall in the world. Oh! And here I am at Médanos de Coro. It's a national park covered in huge natural sand dunes. Really amazing to see. Venezuela is wonderful. Translates to "When we are done volunteering this summer, visit me in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, to see more of my country." PAOLA: ¡Dame un tour cuando llegue! Translates to "Give me a tour when I get there." Translates to While you are here, say 'Venga aquí' instead of 'Ven aquí.'" PAOLA: ¡Ja! ¡Voy a practicar empezando ahora! Dígales a sus amigos allí estaré. Translates to "Ha! I am going to practice starting now! Tell your Friends I'll be there." (END CONVERSATION) DIEGO: I'm actually excited about you being here. Many people don't seem to understand my country, and I want you to know the real Colombia. My friends in the United States think lots of things about Colombia that they see in the movies, but our relationship with the U.S. is really pretty good. We sort of work together to keep both of our countries safe. Personally, I think they just want our coffee. Heh. I'm joking of course, but actually, coffee is in fact one of our biggest exports. While you're here, we should visit the coffee regions of Cartagena. They are incredible. Check this picture out! I took it while diving at the Rosario Islands. They have these giant reefs and more fish than you've ever seen in your life! But there's so much more. We can see the Amazon. It's the longest river in the world, and it's surrounded by rainforests. And then we can go to … (BEGIN CONVERSATION) PAOLA: ¿Por qué no termino primero este viaje antes de que empecemos a planear el siguiente? Espere un segundo Diego, dígame ¿qué hora es? Translates to "Why don't I finish this trip first before we start planning my next one? Wait a second. Diego, tell me what time it is." DIEGO: Son las tres. Translates to "It's three o'clock." PAOLA: ¡¿Las tres!? ¡Es la hora de orientación! ¡Tome su estetoscopio y sígame! Translates to "Three o'clock! It's time for orientation! Grab your stethoscope and follow me!" DIEGO: ¡Lo tengo! ¿Adónde vamos? Translates to "I've got it! Where are we going?" PAOLA: Ven. Por acá. Translates to "Come on. This way." DIEGO: Quieres decir, "venga" ¿no? Translates to "Don't you mean 'venga?'" PAOLA: ¡Diego! Translates to "Diego!" DIEGO: Disculpe, ¡ya voy! Translates to "Sorry, I'm coming!" (END CONVERSATION)
