This is a Romeo and Juliet adaptation. ~ ~ ~ It was the Winter of 2010. It was January, and Patrick Stump had just officially announced his solo album. He called it 'Soul Punk'. He had been unofficially working on it for quite some time, long before he and his band, Fall Out Boy, went on their hiatus in 2009. He was excited to put himself into his music, but sad to have lost his band. This solo album would be the first time he'd had entire creative control of what he was putting out into the world. He didn't have to compromise with three other guys on what the music should sound like. He knew what he wanted. On the brighter side, he felt like a nobody again. That sounded unappealing, but in reality he enjoyed it. He got to start all over again; start from the bottom and work his way up. He felt as if he was reinventing himself, and in a way he was. Patrick had always been somewhat chubby, but he had decided to change a few things. He lost weight, switched out his t-shirts, dad hats, and jeans for tailored suits in various rich colors. And his hair. His ginger mess of locks became a platinum blond color, which he grew long on the top. He felt--and looked--like an entirely different person. Patrick was supposed to start touring soon, but he had no idea how to tell Lily James, the woman he wanted to marry. He was worried about how the entire situation would turn out. He had to tell her today, the rest of his week set aside for packing. He stood at her front door, muttering motivational things to himself under his breath. He raised his fist to knock, but paused. He dropped it again, and continued muttering. He raised his fist once more and knocked three times. He dropped his hand back at his side and glanced off to the side. A few seconds later, the door swung open. Lily smiled wide. "Hi!" She chirped. Her sandy brown hair was tied back in a loose ponytail, her plain t-shirt and jeans covered in paint. She pushed a stray strand of hair out of her eyes and leaned against the door frame. "Hi." Patrick smiled. Suddenly he had no idea what to say. He just stood there. She just stood there. "Come in?" She suggested, side-stepping to make room for Patrick to come inside. He entered silently, and she shut the front door behind him. "I was just repainting Leah's room." She stated, wiping her paint-covered hands on her jeans. Leah was Lily's older sister. Lily had been taking care of Leah since their parents passed four years ago. Lily insisted on taking care of Leah, being that Leah was bipolar and delayed. "Fun stuff." Patrick said, rubbing at a paint splatter on her forehead. She offered him something to drink, and he refused thanking her. "I have to talk to you about something." Patrick began. It was clear he was unsure of how to say this. Lily's expression remained content as she pulled Patrick toward the couch. "What's up?" She questioned. Patrick fidgeted for a few moments before clearing his throat. "I'm going on tour." He stated flatly. There was a moment of silence. "When?" Lily asked. "Next week." Patrick replied. "For how long?" "I don't know." Lily nodded slowly. There was an extended period of silence as it soaked in. "Come with me." Patrick suggested. "You know I can't do that," Lily started. "I can't leave Leah by herself and I can't take her along. She needs a stable place to stay." "Can't your uncle take care of her?" Patrick asked. Lily shook her head. "He has severe anger issues. I don't think he'd be able to handle Leah, and I don't trust anyone else to take care of my sister." Patrick's heart dropped. Lily noticed this immediately. "Go on tour, Patrick. I'll be fine. You only get one chance for this. I'll be here." Lily patted Patrick's knee reassuringly and smiled. Patrick rose from the couch, as did Lily. He moved toward the front door, and Lily opened it. They both stood there in the door-frame staring into each other's eyes. Patrick pulled Lily into a warm hug, pressing his lips to hers in a goodbye kiss before heading out the door. As he made his way to his car, his heart ached, but he hoped to be back before somebody else took his place.
