never watched tokyo ghoul, I'm like 477 episodes into one piece and it's pretty okay.. I probably should read it but oh well

They are different genres and different pros and cons.

For example, one piece is a classic mainstream that has been airing for years. That being said, this means that one piece is hundreds of episodes long. On the other hand, tokyo ghoul is relatively short with less than 30 episodes total. This means that if you are looking for an anime to watch, if you are not interested in investing the next 5 years trying to binge on hundred of episodes, try tokyo ghoul.

In terms of content, one piece could be said to be more light hearted - as in there are episodes and moments created specifically to make the audience laugh (about how some stupid the characters are acting). Tokyo Ghoul on the other hand is much more dark in this aspect with little to no comedy and a whole lot more gore/killing/blood. Both animes are able to tell their stories relatively well, and are able to tug at your heart strings and make you feel for the characters.

PERSONALLY, I would definitely recommend One Piece all the way. The crafting of an Epic story that includes everything good about anime - feels, character development, battles, comedy, etc. Many anime critiques have stated that Tokyo Ghoul as an anime is well animated, however, it misses many elements in the plot to the point that if you don't read the original content/manga, you would be confused for why some characters make some seemingly irrational decisions.

tldr: One Piece is the better, if you don't mind how long it is :)
