Math help please.

Aureo:

@Angle

Angle:

hmm... is there a diagram that we can look at?

hardlyhuman:

i attached the problem to it

Angle:

I think you mis-posted one of the attachments, would you mind checking that? I'm not sure what the triangle is supposed to look like

Angle:

wonderful! that was exactly what I was looking for! thanks :D now, do you know which pairs of angles are corresponding angles? |dw:1518833085938:dw|

hardlyhuman:

youre welcome and i have a general idea, yes

Angle:

so which two angles in your problem do you think are corresponding angles to each other?

Angle:

<4 = <1 or <4 = <2 ? etc

hardlyhuman:

<4 = <1 ?

Angle:

perfect! so which of your options says that? :)

hardlyhuman:

<4 = <1, <3 = <2

Angle:

exactly! ^_^

hardlyhuman:

yay, so would that go in the corresponding postulate box?

hardlyhuman:

angles i mean

Angle:

yup!

hardlyhuman:

and would angle angle similarity go in the next box?

Angle:

exactly! :D

hardlyhuman:

great, what about the last box cause im confused on it

Angle:

oh yeah, that is a little confusing: here's how we reason this... for the "Definition of similar triangles" row, we have CA / CB then in the "segment addition postulate" row, we have CA = CB + BA then in the next row (with the missing box) we have (CB + BA) / CB So it looks like they plugged in CA = CB + BA into the CA/CB row does that make sense?

hardlyhuman:

so substitution?

Angle:

yup!

hardlyhuman:

awesome, would you mind helping me with the last 3?

Angle:

sure! ^_^ I don't mind :)

hardlyhuman:

thanks so much i appreciate it a lot

Angle:

We want the angles in this picture to be equal to each other, if we think about how BA and FC are parallel, what type of angles would you consider these two angles to be? |dw:1518834135406:dw|

hardlyhuman:

alternate interior?

Angle:

yup! so your answer for that row would be exactly that ^_^

hardlyhuman:

cool :)

hardlyhuman:

and for the next box?

Angle:

the row after the next box wants to say that triangle ADB and triangle FDC are equal to each other so what is the vertical angle we're going to need? >what is the vertical angle these two triangles have in common? |dw:1518834469958:dw|

hardlyhuman:

abd abc

Angle:

not quite... these are vertical angles: |dw:1518834584399:dw|

hardlyhuman:

oh, so adb cdf since its the only other option XD

Angle:

lol I guess you can think of it that way x'D

hardlyhuman:

corresponding for the last box?

Angle:

hmmm I don't think so so far, we have that angle BAD and angle CFD are equal and that angle ADB and angle CDF are equal then we want to say the two triangles are similar

hardlyhuman:

okay, so they would be similar with the AA similarity?

Angle:

yup! perfect ^_^

hardlyhuman:

awesome, ill post the next one :)

Bob:

close this post and open a new one so @Angle can get more medals

Angle:

ahahaha not exactly the right reasoning there Bob x'D

Bob:

yussss

hardlyhuman:

okayy then
