lolokrat:

I need help breaking down directions to help me write an essay Directions: Evaluate the effectiveness of Paine's argument against reconciliation with Great Britain. Does Paine use valid and sufficient reasons and evidence to support his argument? Your response should evaluate the validity and relevance of the reasons and evidence Paine uses to support separation from Great Britain. Use evidence from the text to support your response My questions: What does sufficient reasons and evidence mean? Does that mean that it's good and well thought out? "Your response should evaluate the validity and relevance of the reasons and evidence Paine uses to support separation from Great Britain" What does validity and relevance of the reasons and evidence mean?

Shadow:

Sufficient basically means "good enough." So saying that, for example, "this evidence is sufficient enough to prove my argument and invalidate yours" means it's good enough to defend my point, and destroy the opponents.

lolokrat:

ok

Shadow:

Valid basically means it's logical, or reasonable. "Your name is lolokrat on QC" - Logic "Your name is lolokrat irl" - Illogical I have no evidence to substantiate the claim that your name is also lolokrat irl, therefore it is an illogical argument to make. But if I had proof, then I could. But I don't, thus making it illogical. If you are catching on here, an invalid argument is one made without proof.

lolokrat:

thank you!

Shadow:

No problem

lolokrat:

@Shadow for reasoning to be classified as valid, does this mean that it has to be true, or can it be an opinion?
