If an African elephant comes to America, is it an African-American elephant?

eatsalad:

serious question...

Angle:

"African Elephant" is a species name. Perhaps, a simpler name given in place of it's latin/scientific latin name. In this case, "African" refers to the elephant's origin as a species. A species is defined by the animal's DNA / genetics. Therefore, if an African elephant comes to America ... unless it undergoes some genetic transformation, it still remains an African elephant.
