Write a one paragraph editorial that rejects imperialism in China. Consider the claims made in your first editorial supporting imperialism and use evidence from the lesson to counter them.
Support I think the imperialism of China was an amazing thing. I say this because it made china’s economy great. Places like Japan, France, Britten, Russia and so much more wanted to colonize with china because of their economy. China provided many things such as Education, technologies, and science. Imperialism changed their culture as well their lives. If china didn’t have imperialism china would be a whole different place and society.
why you answer your own question @AnimeGhoul8863
i didnt thats the support i need the against i put this here to help the person out
oh ok it looked liked you answered it
thanks for the picture btw
welcome anytime
@AnimeGhoul8863 Do you know what imperialism is?
@JustSaiyan
yes
Imperialism: the system under which nations take over other countries either by conquering them or by gaining control over their political and economic systems
Do you have examples of Chinese imperialism?
its in my support paragraph
Explain them
China had been so weakened by centuries of exploitation that European interlopers wrote their own rules and forced the Chinese to capitulate to their imperial demands. China was too weak to repel the onslaught of European powers competing for her resources. Britain, France, Russia, and later Japan and other nations, vied with each other for control of China's wealth.
^what i have from lesson^ so please help me understand
China fit the bill on all counts. It had vast, untapped natural resources and its government was too weak to control its enormous territory. China was, in other words, easy pickings for imperialists.
if u dont reply imma just risk it and do it my self -_-
Hmm, is this imperialism by China, or done in China?
Yeah in
idk thats why i said im confuse please help explain
" imperialism in China" this means we are to talk about other countries which through intentions of imperialism, came to China.
huh how does that explain what it is i need help figuring out how to reject it in a paragraph
Well for one, in Britain there was a high demand for Chinese tea, silk, and porcelain. But they didn't have enough silver to trade with them for these items. At the time, China was producing a lot of silver bullion which put them in favor in trade since they had so much of it, and was already well established in the Chinese economy. The British wanted silver so they could obtain the Chinese commodities that they wanted. In order to achieve this, they brought opium into the Chinese economy to leverage it against silver, to obtain it. Since drugs are sought after, it took hold in China. This led to the Chinese seeking to ban opium since they no longer had the upper hand in trade. This angered the British, and led to the Opium War of 1839. The Chinese were defeated, and this led to the imposition of something called "Unequal Treaties." They were essentially the trading of jurisdiction of Chinese lands, and control over various ports (and its tariffs) to foreign powers.
China got carved up into various pieces of land as a result, dividing up the large land mass. A website referenced this time, in which by the late 1800s, China was said to have been "carved up like a melon" by foreign powers competing for "spheres of influence" in China.
so for against i could put I think the imperialism of China was an terrible thing. i say this because if it never happened china wouldn't have gotten addicted to opium and there wouldn't have been a opium war. if china didn't lose there silver i believe they would be in a better spot than were they are now.
Capitalize China, it is a country
i will when i get the answer at the end
Okay
"if it never happened china wouldn't have gotten addicted to opium" very amusing, but your paragraph lacks understanding of the situation. Try add more detail.
umm ok more detail ill try
I think the imperialism of China was an terrible thing. i say this because if it never happened china wouldn't have gotten addicted to opium and there wouldn't have been a opium war. if china didn't lose there silver i believe they would be in a better spot than were they are now. also if china never had imperialism they wouldn't have been powerless puppet to the imperialist. china could have been one of the richest countries. China tried to reform by reviving Confucianism and other cultural norms. Yet nothing seemed to help it regain its lost power and self-respect.
@Shadow
^^^^^
how this please say good bc i have to submit it really soon
Eh, not to sure about that, since they are the world's second richest country
As of now
oh whal den Hmmmmmm
If China didn't lose there silver they would have been in a better spot for trade.
From "if china didn't lose there silver i believe they would be in a better spot than were they are now. "
" i say this because if it never happened china wouldn't have gotten addicted to opium and there wouldn't have been a opium war." If the imperialism never came to China, opium would have never entered the economy and disturbed a trade system which agreed with the Chinese economy. Additionally, the Opium War of 1839 wouldn't have occurred.
"also if china never had imperialism they wouldn't have been powerless puppet to the imperialist." If imperialism never came to China, the land wouldn't have gotten divided up for foreign powers, and the Chinese wouldn't have lost control of some of their ports.
You bring up the general idea, but it's like you just see the tip of the iceberg, and not the majority of the ice which is underneath the water.
so if i put that together it would make the answer
nd yes i know my dad had the same problem in school srry for the struggle but now i understand more
If the imperialism never came to China, opium would have never entered the economy and disturbed a trade system which agreed with the Chinese economy. I am taking snippets of what you said and rewriting it and adding more detail. That is what I was looking for you to do.
Sure, but paraphrase and make it sound more like you wrote it. I can bring the information, but you need to add your own thoughts to it.
thx
