RawlsK29:

Can anyone help? I think the answer is C, but not sure.

dude:

Not quite, remember when you distribute you have to do it to all the numbers inside the parenthesis

RawlsK29:

yeah, what did I miss?

dude:

Well it multiplied 6 and 3x but it did not multiply 6 and -7

RawlsK29:

I'm confused, can you explain it from the beginning?

dude:

How would you distribute Ex. \(2(1x-2)\)?

RawlsK29:

?

RawlsK29:

what do those numbers have to do with

dude:

|dw:1520288597821:dw|

RawlsK29:

18 + 42

dude:

I was trying to do an example but mind that

Mehek:

You multiply whatever is outside of the parenthesis with everything inside

Mehek:

Close but 6 * -7 isn't 42

RawlsK29:

ohhhh yeah, sorry its -42

Mehek:

And when you multiply 6 * 3x, you still need the x so 18x not just 18

RawlsK29:

what do I do next?

Mehek:

Well so we have 18x and -42 Put them together 18x - 42 = 2

Mehek:

When you solve for a variable you want to get it by itself

RawlsK29:

OMG!! Its D, right?

Mehek:

So to do that first we've got to move -42 to the other side and whenever you move anything you do the opposite so since on one side it is -42, you would do +42 18x - 42 + 42 = 2 + 42 18x + 0 = 44 See how the 42 is gone from the left?

Mehek:

Yep correct

RawlsK29:

Thank You so much, your a life saver!

Mehek:

You're welcome :}
