Based on what you have read and learned and what you have thought about in this assignment, write an analytic paragraph in which you decide whether you support the current system of appointing justices for life. Be sure to consider the pros and cons of the current as well as alternative systems of selecting and retaining judges

zarkam21:

this is what I have so far

zarkam21:

@Shadow

zarkam21:

I believe that the current system of appointing justices for life is not ethical. I do not think it is fair for people that want to have that specific job because the people holding that position. The Constitution says that individuals are appointed for life as long as they hold “good behavior” . The overall purpose that this lifetime appointment holds is that it in a way, proves that the power that is granted cannot be wrong. It assumes that the honesty of the power that is given by the Court protects them against the other branches of government. The jobs are safe as well as the nation. The pros for this is that the government is stable. This is also a positive because the people that are appointed are not typically at too much risk because these specific people appointed will not base their opinions on personal belief and will be trusted with the system. In contrary, everytime a new person is hired, they will need to learn the system and how things work which may not be good for the court. So, a pro would be that the same individual is acquainted to the system. Some cons of this lifetime appointment are that this policy pushes the system for a better thinking that is of many years ago, and does not modernly fit into the most recent way of the system. These are some of the comparisons between lifetime appointments.

zarkam21:

I need some guidance on alternative systems

Arcadiouse:

@zarkam21 What exactly?

zarkam21:

for the government

Arcadiouse:

No but what alternative systems.

zarkam21:

alternative systems of selecting and retaining judges.

Arcadiouse:

The public votes them in, every four years, along with the president.

zarkam21:

ugh what do you think woul dbe another my brain is fried at this point

zarkam21:

Maybe having a certain age limit that when you are 50 , you will need to leave

Arcadiouse:

They apply for the job and the president approves or rejects.. Age limit should be like 80.

zarkam21:

Could you help me go more into depth and detail on why lifetime appointment are unethical

Arcadiouse:

I don't think its unethical....

Arcadiouse:

So, I am the wrong person. It isn't even an ethic....

zarkam21:

No i mean I am supposed to list pros and cons and i have enough pros but cannot figure out the cons

zarkam21:

My teacher said I need to elaborate more on the cons

Arcadiouse:

what cons do you have?

zarkam21:

In contrary, everytime a new person is hired, they will need to learn the system and how things work which may not be good for the court. So, a pro would be that the same individual is acquainted to the system. Some cons of this lifetime appointment are that this policy pushes the system for a better thinking that is of many years ago, and does not modernly fit into the most recent way of the system.

Arcadiouse:

Oh lord. Ok, so when someone is hired into being a judge, they already know how all of the laws and court works....

Arcadiouse:

Second of all, lifetime appointment doesn't push old agendas. It pushes the agendas of the former president's views.

zarkam21:

And then to more explicitly elaborate on this second point, would this be okay lifetime appointment doesn't push old agendas. It pushes the agendas of the former president's views which is not good. There needs to be a variation in opinions,

Arcadiouse:

Yes. I like that.
