What are the layers of the Earth according to geologists current theory? @Pixel
Crust, Mantle, Outer core, Inner core
There are only four?
unless you count upper mantle
I recall a term from many years ago, lithosphere. What is that?
Lithosphere is the crust and all uppermost sold mantle
What does the crust consist of?
granitic and mafic sillicates rocks
And this is the layer in which sinkholes occur, right? How does that happen?
yes and it happens because moisture erodes the space underneath a spot of land and it collapses when it gets wide enough and it seems to grow
Is a certain type of rock more susceptible to sinkholes? What would be best to build upon?
Solid bedrock
Don't I have to dig down a couple feet for that?
yes but you want to build on top of solid bedrock so you have to use seismographic technology to find the bedrock
Sounds like you would make a great geologist. Ever considered that career path?
no not really but I'll look into it
Well, is it something you're passionate about, or have an interest in?
Well its the only subject I actually enjoy learning
Well, I got to run. But you answered my questions quite well and I enjoyed this. Would be curious to know more in the future.
