I was kind of hesitating to answer this b/c I didn't really know how to explain it w/o giving it away ^^" but here goes nothing

first we can pick one set of parallel lines like so:

there are 4 parallel sides, and we want pairs, so we could use the formula

nCr = n!/[r!(n-r)!)]

and plug in 4 for n and 2 for r to get the # of combinations for parallel lines in that direction

now, if you notice, there are 2 more sets of parallel lines in the other two directions, so you would take the result from the first step, multiply it by 3 to get the final sol'n
