I was kind of hesitating to answer this b/c I didn't really know how to explain it w/o giving it away ^^" but here goes nothing first we can pick one set of parallel lines like so:

there are 4 parallel sides, and we want pairs, so we could use the formula nCr = n!/[r!(n-r)!)] and plug in 4 for n and 2 for r to get the # of combinations for parallel lines in that direction
