zach:

If the range of the function f(x) = 7x – 2.7 is {14.1, 30.9, 41.4, 58.9, 68}, what is its domain?

dude:

Range is all the y-values, do you know which are the y-values?

zach:

nope

zach:

posibile answers 1.8,3.4,5.6,9,9.8 3.2,3.9,5.8,8.4,9.1 2.4.4.,6.3,8.8,10.1 3,4.6,6.7,8.9,10.8

dude:

Another way to say domain is x, \(f(x)\) also means y, since we know the y-values we can simply substitute it and solve for x For example: \(f(x) = 7x – 2.7\) \(14.1=7x-2.7\) ~ \(\color{red}{substitution}\) \(16.8=7x\) \(\color{red}{Add~2.7~on~both~sides}\) \(2.4=x\) \(\color{red}{Divide~by~7~on~both~sides}\) So for when the range is 14.1, the domain is 2.4

zach:

thank you
