Need help with an economics assignments regarding stocks?
@Shadow do you know anything about finance/stocks?
well, first step is to pick a company (I would suggest a large, public company like apple or google or whatever to find the best data available) now, you will need to look up the stock price for this company about 1 year ago from today, I believe a website like yahoo finance might have the data
Okay I have that
may I know what company you picked and what is the stock price from one year ago?
I chose the company Apple. The stock price of apple right now is 174.14. One year ago it was 170.25
awesome, so divide 1,000 / (the stock price from one year ago to find out how many stocks you could have bought back then
1. Why did you think buying this stock would be a good idea? I think buying this stock would be a good idea because Apple is a big company and has many investments which would make this stock interesting to buy.
for #1 i wrote this
oh yeah I forgot aboutt that, yeah that's a good answer
1,000 / 170.25
5.87
good, and that equals 5.8 something and the problem says to round to the nearest whole number, so 6
now take this number (6) and multiply by the current stock price
6*174.14=1,044.84
awesome, so this number is greater than 1,000 so for 3) we would say no, we would have not made more money by selling sooner
for the write a journal entry part, do you think the questions is it??
well a "journal entry" would imply complete sentences, so I guess just take the info from questions 1-3 and write a small paragraph? :S idk
Yeah thanks ! =)
I am starting to get a bit sleepy is there anything else to this assignment?
just last thing, I am writig the journal entry ,dotn need help on that.... just about the 6 here would it be dollars?
6 is the number of shares, not dollars according to our calculations the current value of your stock is $1,044.84 which means you would have made 1,044.84 - 1000 = $44.84 on your investment
cool, thanks thats all. Thank yoou once again for helping me so much . I cant thank you enough. Have a great night and sweet dreams
