I'm not sure if Authority and Hasty generalization are alright of should be switched.

Felicity96:

I believe they should be switched

UsArmy3947:

You sure?

Felicity96:

Yes

UsArmy3947:

Thanks ^.^

Felicity96:

No problem

Shadow:

Argument from authority - you aren't an expert therefore you can't talk about it Example: You are a man, therefore you cannot talk about women's issues such as abortion Slippery slope - If Event A happens, then Event B will occur. Therefore Event A should not happen. Hasty Generalization - Making conclusions based on insufficient evidence. Example: I found a white police officer who was overly aggressive towards a black person, therefore all white police officers are racist.

Shadow:

An example of slippery slope could be seen in the political realm, since it catches eyes when people say "If this legislation passes, then x, y, and z will happen." Therefore there is complete opposition instead of bipartisanship (working together). The main part about this fallacy is that is drives the conversation away from the root of the issue, and instead goes into a world of extreme hypotheticals.

UsArmy3947:

....

UsArmy3947:

You make me cringe just the thought of saying this...

UsArmy3947:

But...

UsArmy3947:

Thank you.....

Shadow:

No problem. You seem interested in the realm of politics so it's good to know these as they are commonplace in political discussions.

UsArmy3947:

POLITICS IS MY LIFE <3

Shadow:

You should post in the politics section then. I've made some use out of it with debates and discussions on a couple of topics, but I plan to make it more active in the future. You could help in that regard.

UsArmy3947:

Alright no prob ^.^ thanks for letting me know of it's existence, honestly didn't know it existed ._.

UsArmy3947:

^ No sarcasm, swear

Shadow:

Haha, I'll take you at your word. I'll be off for now, but maybe when I log on later today, perhaps I will see a post or two in the Politics section from you? Just remember to be cordial and kind. Political discussion best occurs when everyone is calm and not heated. When people are upset, they usually resort to adhominems (another fallacy) in which instead of attacking the argument, they attack the person making the argument. Example: You're a sexist, transphobic, homophobic, xenophobic, racist, bigot.

Shadow:

I forgot islamophobic but you get the idea.
