The Ottoman Empire threatened the European powers of the day. They managed to single handedly take down the Byzantines and were continuing to build up strength. Would have most likely taken over Europe if they hadn't been stopped at the Battle of Vienna.

Isry:

After this battle the Europeans and Ottomans were at a stalemate with either side unable to gain any ground on the other. So I would say the answer is C as well.
