well im assuming that the answer is that there was a much more prevalent government intervention and regulation on the validity of ballots. People were angry with the levels of political corruption that shot up almost directly after the Era of Good Feelings.

oh i guess there was the new system for deciding electors too. In 1820 electors were decided through popular vote to reduce spoil system and political coalition.
