How were the Opium Wars the result of Britain’s infringement on Chinese sovereignty? Question 9 options: The British only traded in the assigned ports, such as Canton, and not with the interior of China. The British smuggled opium into China to make a profit, although selling opium was against Chinese law. Chinese peasants became addicted to opium, ensuring the British an export China would buy. The British attempted to gain more favorable trading rights by sending emissaries like Lord Macartney.

Isry:

Britain was exporting opium to China and China was attempting to crack down on this because many of the Chinese people were getting addicted to opium this was causing a number of social issues and other problems for the Qing dynasty. So the answer I would say is that Britain smuggled opium into China for profit.

Isry:

They kept doing this which undermined the sovereignty of the Chinese government because they essentially ignored their laws.
