CINIDVALERA:

When are the displacement and acceleration equal to zero for the motion of a mass on a spring?

SmokeyBrown:

Hi and welcome to QuestionCove! If I understand the question correctly, we're dealing with an object hanging from a spring, and we want to imagine when the object on the spring is not moving or changing speed or direction. I would imagine that this occurs when the spring is fully compressed, when the spring is fully extended, and when the object is at rest because the force exerted downward by gravity and the force upward by the spring are equal.

sillybilly123:

We can totally generalise SHM as: \( \ddot x = - \omega^2 x \) so \(\ddot x(t) = 0 \implies x(t)= 0\) IOW, the null events are contemporaneous
