Writing Tips: Here are some writing tips and resources that I have found helpful through my years of writing. I’m going to start with the tips, and then I will mention the tools/resources. Tip number one: Don’t use the word said, say, or talk a lot. This can get rather monotonous, and annoying to have to deal with. This is especially if you have happened to be doing a report or paper, once my teacher took off points because I wrote in my report said too many times. If you are interested in reading it, below is a list of words (In the resource section of this post), that I have collected that can be used to replace said. But, you can always go on http://www.thesaurus.com/ or whip out your old-fashioned thesaurus. (Thesaurus sounds like a dinosaur name to me). Tip number two: This one is rather common, but write every day, even if it is five minutes. This can help you get better, and if you write every day you can notice the things that you do wrong in writing, and fix it. This can also help you get better at talking, because writers half of the time, talk the way they write. Tip number three: Read. Read almost anything and everything. If you do this, you can find more ideas for other stories, or other books. The more you read, the better vocabulary you can get, and that equals the better you can write. I became so good at writing because I was always an avid reader. And it doesn’t matter if you read fiction, nonfiction, or biographies. Tip number four: Never share anything you write with other people. Even if it is someone super close to you. People steal ideas right and left these days, and you aren’t really able to copyright infringe something that is not out yet. Tip number five: Always carry a notebook with you. If you get an idea, you can’t always pull out your phone, tablet, or computer. If you are actually writing a full-on book, I would suggest buying a notebook just for that story or book that you are writing. Tip number six, and the last tip: Make a Pinterest board for each one of your characters. I know this sounds a bit silly, but it works. Add texts that they would send, things that they would wear, and even make a bit of an aesthetic type of thing for them. Also have character traits picked out, and know what Hogwarts house that they are. Resources: Words to write instead of said: Bellowed, consoled, whispered, muttered, mumbled, screeched, suggested, yelled, snapped, reassured, cried, sobbed, sputtered, stammered, groaned, moaned, cautioned, commanded, insisted, and gushed. Editors: If you are looking for something that will edit your book or paper, I highly suggest https://www.grammarly.com/ . Grammarly corrects comma mistakes, suggests words to use, and even more if you pay for the premium. It corrects mistakes on anywhere on the web, even on QC. Plagiarism: I ran into something a long time ago, when I first started writing (sadly it was fanfiction), and someone had stolen my work. I ran into it and found out, it got resolved and the other account was banned from the site, but now I always use this site http://www.copyscape.com/ . It searches through sites and makes sure that your work is not there. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! Feel free to ask questions or add more tips.
