My argumentative essay

Video Games should be considered a sport because it takes as much skill and effort as a sport like hockey. Gamers today are very un-appreciated, a lot of gamers are called losers and couch potatoes. This is hardly true, gamers have a higher mental capacity than most of us because they need to learn strategies movement and how the game works. If you watch some gamers, most of them aren’t even overweight. Most of the overweight gamers were overweight before they started playing. Most gamers that compete don’t just sit in a chair and play all day, they actually are able to travel the world to play in these championships. For those of you who say no gaming shouldn’t be a sport, I agree to a point. Yes you don’t get much physical activity or burn calories, and yes it could be considered a waste of time, but is it a waste of time when they practice for days on end then they go compete and win as much 1.4 million dollars? There is no job in the world that has the possibility of getting 1.4 million dollars at one time, and they do it by staring at a screen. I think that if you are a kid, you shouldn’t put all of your time gaming because education is still important, but if you have a high school diploma, then you should be able to do whatever you want if you enjoy it without anyone telling you otherwise. Many gamers receive hate from their parents and their parents get mad and take away their gaming devices. I understand this, but they shouldn’t take it away because their kids may be a great gamer one day. Parents take this too far and call them lazy and uneducated, this isn’t true, many video games encourage teamwork and team building skills. Video games also encourage the people who play them to think, which builds their problem solving. If you are a competitive gamer I think you should spend more than 5 hours a day gaming because you have the chance of making a living but if you game for fun like an activity you shouldn’t do it more than 3 hours. If you want to be a streamer that is fine if you game all day because you still make some money from donations. Video games can be considered too graphic, but that is an opinion. Some games may have nudity or sexual content in them, most of the time gamers don’t play them for that reason and play it for the gameplay. Video games are very sport-like because you need a team to win, you also need to have a plan, you need practice, and you need to get along with your team mates. This pretty much describes your average sport with few exceptions. There really aren’t many bad side effects to gaming all day other than headaches from the computer screen but gamers can fix this with special UV computer glasses. The people who say gaming isn’t a sport because there isn’t any physical activity is just an uneducated opinion. You don’t need to be super active to be healthy, you just need to get out and walk at least 30 minutes a day and eat well. The gamers who play these games consider it a sport and that should be all that matters. It only really depends on what kind of gaming style you do whether it is Competitive, Streaming, or for fun. When people call gamers fat and lazy, I consider that discrimination, because they aren’t as active as the other person so they are the dirt of society. This is wrong and shouldn’t be done, Gamers have feelings and should be appreciated because most of the time these great people inspire us to get better at a game or be a good streamer or learn to have fun. I have many idols in the gaming world and without their tutorials on the games or characters they play I wouldn’t be at the level I play at. I continually get better with every match by changing the way I use a character or trying a new one with my old play style. This is the reason gaming has so many benefits because to play a character you have to learn what works and what doesn’t. Without calling video games a sport all these people who play them wouldn’t be recognized and as famous as they are. To people who don’t play video games say that it is a waste of time, while gamers say that the game is the one thing in their life that they can rely on. I have had some experiences while gaming by being put down because I’m young or play a certain character wrong or that I’m bad at the game. Everyone is considered bad when they first play it and age shouldn’t matter and that gaming should just be about having fun. I eventually learned to ignore those people who say I’m bad and then later on they are in the same place while I got better. I think that people who think negatively on video games will always be unaccepting to gamers and those who play it for fun will support those people who game. Most of the time people play video games to relax playing a game they love and it doesn’t even have to be a team game it could just be a solo game like Tetris which is a brain game. Gaming is important to have as a “sport” because it changes the lives of many people. Gaming shouldn’t be considered like a normal sport but still a sport because it doesn’t have that same amount of physical activity but should still be a sport because it is as challenging and you need to work towards that goal to become better and become the best at a game and eventually make money playing video games. In the end though this is merely an opinion based matter and we should leave it at that but still consider it a sport in some way.

Okay. I love your concept do you have sources for all of these things that you have said? Like I understand how you think that they have a higher mental capacity because they have to memorize all of those things, but if you have no sources, it is simply an opinion. Also, the person whom you are arguing could counter that with the fact that athletes have to also memorize the strategies. The thing about above, I am not saying that it is not true but I would try to find a source so it would make your paper look more professional and you could rephrase it as "According to blah blah"

justasoftie:

And also as I read down, I noticed you said a streamer should be fine in a game all day. I do not think this is true. Because what if they don't get enough donations? What if their content gets old to their viewers? You should always have a backup job.

justasoftie:

And I'm also not trying to be bothersome but I noticed that you needed some new commas here and there so I hope you don't mind I edited it and added them

simplysadie:

just a little tip, (everything looks great btw) when you write your final don't forget to have a works cited page because that will mostly knock off points

mhchen:

Well he doesn't need a works cited if he never cited anyone
