(Can someone like explain this to me? I have a placement exam Wednesday on Arithmetic and Algebra so I need help going over some stuff) A store stocked 150 cans of popcorn for a weekend sale. Tat weekend, 72 of the cans sold. What percent of the cans of popcorn stocked were sold that weekend? A. 2% B. 5% C. 48% D. 72%

EndersWorld:

Take your original value which is 150 and multiple it by your percent.

EndersWorld:

You can easily turn a percent into a decimal by multiplying it by .001

EndersWorld:

.01*

EndersWorld:

Knowing this, what do you think the answer is?

simplysadie:

I want to say D because when I multiplied 72 with 0.1 it came out as 7.2

EndersWorld:

Here, lemme work through it with you.

EndersWorld:

I will tell you the correct answer is C

EndersWorld:

\[150+x%=72 \]

EndersWorld:

x%=72

EndersWorld:

Multiply 2 by .01

simplysadie:

it's 0.2

EndersWorld:

.02*

EndersWorld:

Now multiply .02 by 150

simplysadie:

Okay, ( using a calculator btw) I get 3

EndersWorld:

Right, 3 is not 72.

EndersWorld:

So if 2 was 3 then it is logical that 5% would not equal your 72

EndersWorld:

What is 48*.01

simplysadie:

0.48

EndersWorld:

Multiply 150 by .48

simplysadie:

72

EndersWorld:

There's your answer :)
