so pitch only changes when the *source* of the sound is moving toward or away from a listener. because of how the sound compresses on itself as new sound waves are being made
on the other hand the intensity (or volume) of the sound gets smaller the farther away you get as in, the farther away you are, the softer the sound
so intensity =)
