Questions 6-10 relate to the Digging the Fossil Record on the Smithsonian website. Each complete and correctly answered question is worth 2 points. 6. Where is your virtual dinosaur dig happening? Describe the conditions at the dig site. 7. Look at the pictures. What are the different tools used at a dig site and what are their uses? 8. What kind of animal did you uncover in your dinosaur dig? 9. How are fossils protected for transport? 10. After the dig, give the following information: When did it live and where was this specimen found? Heres the Smithsonian website: http://nmnh.typepad.com/smithsonian_fossils/2016/10/from-the-field-dinosaur-dig.html

justasoftie:

Do you still need help with this?

justasoftie:

If so, which one do you need help with?

iosangel:

All of them...

justasoftie:

Alright. So you have any ideas for the first one?

justasoftie:

This answer you can actually find in the following excerpt Curator Matthew Carrano studies ecosystems that existed 76 million years ago, during the Late Cretaceous. In recent years, his fieldwork has focused on collecting the fossils of small vertebrates in Montana, but this year his field team's task was to excavate dinosaur bones from a site discovered last summer.

justasoftie:

Did you find it?

iosangel:

Wait, I'm a little confused

justasoftie:

How?

iosangel:

okay, so the first one is that I dont understand. It doesnt make sense to me....

iosangel:

Like where would I find it in the site. What virtual dinosaur dig ?

justasoftie:

So the whole article was sorta giving you a tour of a digsite, a basically a virtual dinosaur dig

iosangel:

Okay

justasoftie:

So the answer to that is Montana. And now to focus on the second part of the qiestion

justasoftie:

If you look in th photos, you can tell it is desert like from context because of the dryness and rockiness.

iosangel:

Oh yes.

justasoftie:

But then, you can see some greenery so it suggests that it is simply in between. It also appears to be, I don't want to say messy but I do not want to say organized. You have tools around everyone, and you have people laying on the ground

iosangel:

Ohh, I thought what it meant by describe was like, "hot, dry ect"

iosangel:

could I describe it like that too?

justasoftie:

Yes you could

justasoftie:

Now to number seven. I want to make sure you are with me

iosangel:

Theres a hammer, (not sure what thats for)

justasoftie:

Probably cracking the dirt, it appeared to be more of a pick in my opinion

iosangel:

Yes

iosangel:

Would the plaster be one?

iosangel:

Or would that be for number 9

iosangel:

@justasoftie You there?

justasoftie:

Yes

justasoftie:

Sorry I fell asleep

iosangel:

Lol

iosangel:

I think I got all except for number ten

iosangel:

I dont see where it was found or where it lived

justasoftie:

I'm not too sure about it

iosangel:

Wait, I dont think I got #7. It said "tools" And i only got "pick".
