buttercup888:

Explain what happens in the carbon cycle, giving specific examples of some of the steps.

SourMunchkin7806:

the series of processes by which carbon compounds are interconverted in the environment, chiefly involving the incorporation of carbon dioxide into living tissue by photosynthesis and its return to the atmosphere through respiration, the decay of dead organisms, and the burning of fossil fuels.

SourMunchkin7806:

So using that description can you tell me some of the steps involved?

buttercup888:

ummmmm

SourMunchkin7806:

Lol ok here ill help you start

buttercup888:

plaese do

SourMunchkin7806:

So the carbon cycle uses what

SourMunchkin7806:

(the water cycle uses water) meaning this uses.....

buttercup888:

carbon

SourMunchkin7806:

right. Now carbon comes from what?

buttercup888:

carbon dioxide

SourMunchkin7806:

right. So what uses carbon dioxide as a "life force"?

buttercup888:

animals and plants??

SourMunchkin7806:

well animals breathe oxygen just like us, but yes plants use that. So the first step would be plants having to draw the oxygen from the air right?

buttercup888:

yes

SourMunchkin7806:

Great, now you come up with the rest, jsut continue the cycle

buttercup888:

thats the thing i dont know how. thats why i asked

SourMunchkin7806:

Well once the plants have the carbon dioxide what do they do with it

buttercup888:

make it into energy

SourMunchkin7806:

exactly so thats the second part

SourMunchkin7806:

next they would use some of that energy right?

buttercup888:

Is this right? Carbon enters the atmosphere as carbon dioxide from respiration and combustion. Carbon dioxide is absorbed by producers to make carbohydrates in photosynthesis. Animals feed on the plant passing the carbon compounds along the food chain. Most of the carbon they consume is exhaled as carbon dioxide formed during respiration. The animals and plants eventually die. The dead organisms are eaten by decomposers and the carbon in their bodies is returned to the atmosphere as carbon dioxide. In some conditions decomposition is blocked. The plant and animal material may then be available as fossil fuel in the future for combustion.

SourMunchkin7806:

Actually yes that is ahaha

buttercup888:

thanks. i just searched the carbon cycle. do you think you could help me with some more?

SourMunchkin7806:

Yea

buttercup888:

Describe an ecosystem and identify the different trophic levels. Describe what happens to energy as it is transferred through an ecosystem.

buttercup888:

Compare and contrast photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Explain in detail how photosynthesis follows the law of conservation of mass and the law of conservation of energy.

buttercup888:

Explain why photosynthesis is important to the survival of all organisms in an ecosystem

NarWhalGod:

Well photosynthesis is the life force for us it gives us oxygen and takes carbon out of the air

buttercup888:

Thank you!

NarWhalGod:

Your welcome
