How did the fourteenth amendment affect civil liberties in the united states? It expanded civil liberties by paving the way for more amendments. it limited civil liberties by stating that they only applied to former slaves. It expanded civil liberties by requiring more governments to provide them. It limited civil liberties by creating a balance with the public interest.

Shadow:

@itsame22 Do you have an idea?

itsame22:

Shadow:

Do you know what the 14th amendment is?

itsame22:

no my assignment glitched and wont open the page

Shadow:

https://www.history.com/topics/black-history/fourteenth-amendment "The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, ratified in 1868, granted citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States—including former slaves—and guaranteed all citizens “equal protection of the laws.” One of three amendments passed during the Reconstruction era to abolish slavery and establish civil and legal rights for black Americans, it would become the basis for many landmark Supreme Court decisions over the years."

Shadow:

So it was one of the amendments passed after the Civil War in order to ensure civil liberties.

Shadow:

It didn't necessarily pave the way for further amendments. That's what the Civil War did.

itsame22:

Shadow:
