quickstudent:

Given a = 3, b = -1 and k = 2, what is the equation of the graph if the parent function is y = √x ?

dude:

Square root functions are written as \(y=a\sqrt{(x+b)}+c\)

dude:

Just substitute the values given

quickstudent:

But somebody else said that the root function is written as \[y=a \sqrt{b(x-h)}+k\] Which one is it?

Angle:

go with this one \(y=a \sqrt{b(x-h)}+k\) plug your variables in, what do you get?

quickstudent:

\[y=3\sqrt{-1(x-h)}+2\]

Angle:

and h = 0

Angle:

then it would be correct ^_^

quickstudent:

So \[y=3\sqrt{-1x}+2\] ?

Angle:

yup, I think so :)
