what do you think x equals and ill tel you if your right

Paris:

17 or 16

Shadow:

If the figures are similar, then the sides are proportional. There is some common factor that you can multiply the figure on the right by, in order to get the corresponding side on the left. The easiest one to visualize this is 10 and 15. If you don't see the number, you can solve for it. \[10x = 15\] \[x = 1.5\] You can do this with each side and it will come out to 1.5

Shadow:

With that in mind, how do you think you can get the length of x?

Shadow:

I used x to express the common factor, but that is not the answer.

Shadow:

\[12 \times 1.5 = 18\] \[8 \times 1.5 = 12\]

Shadow:

This would mean that: \[x \times 1.5 = 21\]

Paris:

x=14

Shadow:

Correct

Paris:

thank you!!

Shadow:

No problem
