Allison:

Percent of change.

Allison:

From 14 to 17 My answer~ 3/14=%change/100

Allison:

@Hero

Allison:

Or not. Rip.

Hero:

Here

Allison:

Hello

Hero:

I highly recommend using the percent change formula: \(\%\triangle = \dfrac{a - b}{a} \times 100\) a = original amount b = new amount

Hero:

In this case a = 14 b = 17

Allison:

No -3

Hero:

actually take the absolute value: \(\%\triangle = \dfrac{|a - b|}{a} \times 100\)

Allison:

?

Hero:

So take the positive of the of the result of the subtract portion.

Allison:

So instead of subtract, it’s add?

Allison:

Is -3 wrong?

Allison:

14-17 is -3 divided by 14 next?

Hero:

Absolute value means whatever the value is, make it positive

Allison:

Oh so it’s just 3

Hero:

|-x| = x

Hero:

Yes

Allison:

Okaiii

Hero:

Then divide that amount by 14

Allison:

3/14?

Hero:

The decimal form of 3/14

Allison:

It’s a never ending number on my calculator

Hero:

Just the first 3 numbers is good enough. What is it?

Hero:

Be sure to include the decimal point

Allison:

0.214?

Hero:

Okay, take that amount and multiply it by 100

Allison:

21.4%

Hero:

Finally...

Hero:

But actually, it's just 21.4

Allison:

Sorry.

Hero:

don't include the % in your answer

Allison:

Vocaloid taught me it in a different way and I have different answers. >.<

Allison:

Hold on I’ll show you.

Hero:

Sorry to hear that

Hero:

What I've shown you is the standard way to do it.

Allison:

Okay so I should change those?

Hero:

Well, you did not show me the instructions until now.

Hero:

It says to set up a proportion and do not solve.

Allison:

Yeah

Hero:

Always include the instructions any time you post a question.

Allison:

I said 3/14 = % change/100 up top D:

Hero:

Yeah, but you never included the instructions. You said percent of change. Without the proper instructions, it is difficult to give proper help. This is why students struggle and get confused in math. ALWAYS include the original instructions with the question. Not doing so can result in situations such as this.

Allison:

Okay, it’s my bad. >.<

Hero:

I'm going for the night. The correct model to follow for that is \(\dfrac{|a - b|}{a} = \dfrac{\%\triangle }{100}\)

Hero:

And then just leave it in the proportion form.

Allison:

Okay. Sorry about the instructions thing. ):

Allison:

And about the pointless argument. ♥️

Hero:

So \(\dfrac{3}{14} = \dfrac{\%\triangle}{100}\) is the correct form

Allison:

Okee

Allison:

Got it
