mhchen:

Getting rid of denominators inside a log function:

mhchen:

\[\ln| \frac{x}{2} + \frac{\sqrt{x^2-4}}{2}|= \ln| x+ \sqrt{x^2-4}|\] This is from the answer key of a textbook. How did they get rid of the denominator? Or are they incorrect.

Vocaloid:

huh AFAIK that's not a valid mathematical operation @nuts any second opinions?

mhchen:

Alright so I'm not losing my mind then...

nuts:

yeah looks like they forgot to put in the -ln|1/2|

nuts:

*** -ln[2]

mhchen:

Oh...actually since it was the answer of an integral question. They had a + C at the end. I guess that's where the -ln(2) went.

mhchen:

xD Thanks.
