Mathematics 8 Online
Sophushka:

Olivia needs $36 to buy a coat. She has saved $8 and plans to work as a babysitter to earn $7 per hour. Which inequality shows the minimum number of hours, n, that Olivia should work as a babysitter to earn enough to buy the coat? 8 + 7n ≤ 36, so n ≤ 4 8 + 7n ≥ 36, so n ≥ 4 7n ≥ 36 + 8, so n ≥ 6.3 7n ≤ 36 + 8, so n ≤ 6.3

Tranquility:

You need $36 and you have $8 already saved. You will have a job that pays you $7 per hour. (Pretty sure that's below minimum wage.) Which inequality do you think would best work? Remember that you need at least $36. If you have 35 dollars, you can't buy your jacket. But if you have $37, you can most definitely buy the jacket. The words "at least" should tell you what the inequality sign should be. Once you figure out the inequality, you don't need to solve it because it's already solved. But you can check your answer by solving it or using some numbers and plugging it in. You can even figure out the correct answer without finding the inequality if you understand what the question states and just use numbers to test it.
