A hyena can run one over four of a mile in 22.5 seconds. At this rate, which equation can be used to determine how fast a hyena runs in miles per hour? one-fourth mile over twenty-two point five seconds = 40 miles per hour twenty-two point five seconds over one-fourth mile = 40 miles per hour one-fourth mile over twenty-two point five seconds = 90 miles per hour twenty-two point five seconds over one-fourth mile = 90 miles per hour
@Shadow
How do you think you could go about doing this?
um idk im confused at this one
me no good with fractions
Trust me, it isn't that bad. Miles per hour is what we would call a rate. In this case, this rate is made up of distance over time. They have given us this distance (1/4 of a mile) and time (22.5 seconds). First off, lets convert our fraction to a decimal. 1/4 = 0.25 \[\frac{ Distance }{ Time } = mph\] We must notice that out units for time are different than the rate. Therefore we must convert seconds to hours. There are 60 seconds in a minute and 60 minutes in an hour. 60 x 60 = 3,600 \[22.5 s \times \frac{ 1 hour }{ 3600s } = 0.00625 hour\] Now that we have the correct units, we can do our distance over time formula. \[\frac{ 0.25 mile }{ 0.00625 hour } = 40mph\]
oki
They weren't asking you to solve, mostly just recognizing the distance over time formula in play. But you will probably have to solve these in a future lesson so I thought I'd just show you for reference, haha.
Which answer choice do you think it is?
hnmmmm im guessing the second choice????
So that one has " twenty-two point five seconds over one-fourth mile = 40 miles per hour" That is seconds over miles, or time over distance.
hmmm seconds over miles???????
Focus on the latter statement, time over distance. Is that the formula I used?
yes?
I used distance over time which isn't the same.
oki
so
its not the second option
right?
Correct
oki sooooo it must be the first one then
Well, you shouldn't have to use process of elimination. I pointed out that this problem was just about you recognizing the distance over time formula in play. Miles over seconds, even if not converted to miles over hours, is still distance over time. Just keep that in mind.
so its not the first one either
this is confusing
I don't want to tell you the answer but I never said it wasn't the first one. I have given you more than enough information to determine the answer. I would recommend reading the question, the answer choices, seeing what they are looking for, then reading through my work.
You don't want to blindly guess or learning won't occur.
im confused
About?
everything
im so confused
and im running out of time
please
They are asking which equation would get you the correct miles per hour. The correct equation is distance over time. I solved for the correct miles per hour for you, it is 40mph. I used distance over time in my work. All you have to do is look and see which answer choice used distance over time to get 40mph.
Distance = miles Time = seconds
im still going for the first one
pls if I don't finish this til 8 I will not commplete
its my last question
I am quite literally giving you the answer. Have you read what I said? haha
I am leaving just enough room for you to incorporate some reasoning.
this is not funny, cant you see I don't understand the answer?can you please explain a little more clearer like telling me a little hint?
im sorry if rude but im confused
I have given you multiple. Read through what I have said
and really stressed out!
Just read through what I have said.
I only see the first choice that is right!
mhm
I have read it a million times and I still go for the first option
Yeah, that is the correct answer.
ya could have told me
I kept saying it over and over
It seemed like you were guessing or using a process of elimination. Regardless, if you incorporated reasoning in your answer, have confidence in it.
If you get it wrong, you learn still.
facepalms* I wasn't guessing
whatever thanks
