nuts:

You have 100 lb of potatoes, which are 99 percent water by weight. You let them dehydrate until they're 96 percent water. How much do they weigh now?

gabethebabe:

96.04 lbs

nuts:

no

gabethebabe:

tf

gabethebabe:

what is it then

gabethebabe:

is it a trick question its just 100

gabethebabe:

pOtAtOeS cAnT dEhYdRaTe

SmokeyBrown:

If the potatoes are 99% water at 100 pounds, there is 1 pound of non-water. At 96% water, the 1 pound of non-water would be 4% of the total weight, or 1/25 of the total weight. The total weight of the potatoes would be 25 pounds, and the weight of the water would be 24 pounds.

nuts:

yes

gabethebabe:

if 99% of the potato is water than that means 99lbs of water are in the potato regardless of the makeup of the miscellaneous 1lb. if there are 99 lbs of water take 96% of 99 which is 95.04 then add 1 to obtain the total weight of the potato

gabethebabe:

thats my logic

nuts:

your logic is wrong

gabethebabe:

clearly

SmokeyBrown:

I think the problem is that the 96% is a percentage of the total potato weight, not a total percentage of the original water.

SmokeyBrown:

but yeah i probably messed up somewhere owo

gabethebabe:

ohhh i understand ur answr now
