Assignment Introduction
You are the lead engineer on a project to determine the most-needed improvements on a product design. You will create a focus group to determine improvements needed on the design by evaluating the group’s ideas and choosing the design to develop. Once the design is chosen, you will create a multimedia presentation explaining the decision process and reasoning behind the choice.

Assignment Directions
Gather a group of five to seven classmates to take part in a product improvement focus group. A focus group is a group of people gathered together to discuss their opinions or attitudes about a product or idea. Distribute the background information and description of the product that will be analyzed several days before the meeting so students are prepared for the discussion.

Sample questions to discuss are:

What changes are needed to the product to make the use of the product quicker?

How is the product difficult to use? What would make it easier?

For example, if the product under discussion is a mobile phone and the power button is next to the volume button, then a user might accidentally turn the phone off. A focus group would suggest that the power button be moved to another location. This would be a design change that would make the product easier to use.

Assignment Guidelines
Your ten- to fifteen-minute multimedia presentation must include:

A description of the original product
A synopsis of the focus group discussion, including ideas not used
Specific examples of functional design and superficial design improvements
A detailed description of the chosen design and the reasoning behind the decision
Submission Requirements
You should review your multimedia presentation for:

Correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation
Correct sentence structure
Time requirements
